Dear friends near and far,

What an amazing year of traveling around the planet!  What wonderful friendships made during that time all over the world.  Now the world seems like a much smaller place with all these newfound friendships.  I put together this video that highlights some of those experiences but there are so many faces I wish were in it that aren’t–the video would have played way too long!

New adventures await as I prepare to leave for Brazil in less than two weeks too.  There will be Carnaval to experience in the sweet little surfer town I’m heading back to.  The name of the town is Lagoa de Conceicao or “Lagoa” for short.  I consider it my “alternate universe” of my hometown of Haleiwa, Hawaii.  The main city that Lagoa is associated to is called Florianopolis or “Floripa” for short.  Let’s see what this next step in the journey brings.  This one thing is true in all that has transpired in the few months I’ve been back in Hawaii; it’s all about the journey, not the destination these days and how you go with the flow of it all.  So far I sure have not been dissappointed.  Tchau (bye) amigos & amigas–todo bem!! =)

Pollyroger’s Planetary Pursuits….

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Pals what can we say other than it’s been quite a busy summer and past couple of months since our last post.  But fear not, Pollyroger has been making pals in some amazing planetary places! =)  So we will bring you up to speed, so to speak, of some of her planetary adventures, places she’s been spotted, and fun she’s been having.

She was last written of while in Europe in Vienna, Austria with pals Kathi & Conny.  Well she made a few more stops while in this fantastic continent, starting with her pal Gitte in Prague!

But Pollyroger’s Eastern European time was not over there.  She went on to the fantastic city of Berlin, Germany where she took it all in with a panaroma view at sunset (her favorite time of day) from the TV Tower building in Alexanderplatz.  Here is Berlin with the lovely river Spree running through it’s amazing city and Pollyroger taking it all in…

From Berlin she headed up as far north as this sun loving spirit would venture to Scandanavia, where she set sail on yet another body of water, The Baltic Sea!

Ahh, but dear pals, she had something ahead even more amazing in store…a wonder of the world–The Taj Mahal.  Unfortunately upon arrival to said palace she was not permitted to enter the grounds.  Why you ask?  Was there fear of espionage? Fear of a pirate?  Fear not–Pollyroger persevered… =)

Taj Mahal at a side glance...with Polly pride!

So you ask, “a wonder of the world, great cities of Europe, another sea set sail upon, what more???”  Pollyroger being the adventurous spirit she is knew she was heading to the highest mountains in the world, the Himalayas of Nepal.  So what does she decide to do?  She goes paragliding off of a mountainside in Pokhara, Nepal!!  You can see the city in the distance with Lake Fewa below.

Got FUN?!

Hell yeah…….

Pollyroger meets some Danube Darlings!

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Pollyroger had the pleasure of visiting Vienna, Austria where she became fast friends with some new faces via a familiar face from Argentina via Vienna—talk about some global connections!  She first met up with her pals at the Danube River at none other than one of the darling’s former sailing school, where she was an instructor no less.  Here you see two beautiful Vienna smiles with their new found friend Pollyroger…

Kathi & Conny Danube Darlings

She dined riverside with them that evening where she was promised to be taken on their adventures as well, since these lovely ladies are travelers in their own right.  So within a two week span of time these “Danube Darlings” kept their word as you see they took Pollyroger out for a paddle session to a lake near Vienna.  These girls want to be in prime form when they hit real surf, so how do they prepare?  Paddle Practice sessions!! =)

Pollyroger was glowing from the pictures sent to her on Facebook.  Paddle on Kathi & Conny!!  Keep Pollyroger paddling, playing, and most of all pursuing planetary FUN!  With pals like these gals I don’t think Pollyroger can go wrong—Got FUN?!

Polly goes “Coastal” in Croatia… =)

Saturday, August 14th, 2010
Pollyroger now flies in Croatia!  She’s been seen sailing the Adriatic waters off the coast of the loveliest island in Croatia, called Brac, with the equally lovely town of Bol.  This island is renown for the beach of Zlatni Rat, which is seen in many a travel poster as the best beach in all of Croatia.  That may be argued by fellow Croatians—but it is indeed a slice of Croatian paradise.

Zlatni Rat Morning

Pollyroger had the pleasure of going on a day excursion or two on the motor vessel, “Frane”, who’s home port, is Bol.  She made the acquaintance of Captain Mate (pronounced maw-te like the tea in South America) & his first mate.  Here she is with some Croatian smiles… =)

Captain Mate & Mate... =)

The “M.B. Frane” plies the waters of the Adriatic every day, leaving Bol for a variety of destinations depending on the day of your choosing.  Her various routes are shown here from a brochure of the daily excursions.  Unfortunately no website was to be found in the literature but you can’t miss the “M.B. Frane” as you arrive into Bol.

So Polly Pals PLAY on with Pollyroger, as she sets sail each day with all the FUN folks, going out for the day from Bol on the island of Brac.  Now the Adriatic is another sea that Pollyroger has set sail upon!!

Got FUN? You betcha… =)

Tel Aviv-Jaffa Pollyroger!

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

Pollyroger has been spotted off the coast of Israel, via the oldest port in the world, Jaffa.  Yes, Jaffa or Yafo as she is called by the Israelies is an older port than Alexandria, Egypt, site of the former ancient wonder of the world, The Lighthouse of Alexandria.

Pollyroger was taken out for a sunset sail and the skipper, Amit, decided she needed to remain sailing off the shores of Tel Aviv.  From the looks of these happy faces–I think Pollyroger is smiling on Israel’s Mediterranean seas.

Pollyroger has other planetary places to share of time spent on the water and adventure of many kinds, but the day awaits her and she must go out and PLAY!!  So stay tuned for more updates–they will be coming your way soon.  Ahoy & aloha.

Polly Sails on the Nile!!

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Pollyroger has set sail on The Nile River in Aswan, Egypt no less… =)  There is some very special significance to her latest connection on several levels.  Let’s begin with, she now sails with Abraham on his vessel “The Sea Serpent”, which in fact is Abraham’s father’s boat, Mohammed, I guess you could say her journey has now some “biblical significance”!  Here is Polly in all her glory with Abraham.

Abraham & Pollyroger Sunset Nile Sailing

Pollyroger is in very good hands I believe.  You should have seen how happy Abraham was to have Pollyroger flying from his rigging.  When I later had an opportunity to talk with Abraham’s dad, Mohammed, I shared some pictures with him of Polly’s Pals in Hawaii and also of my family.  Family is very important to the people of Egypt.  Family is such a blessing in so many ways, even with the ups and downs that may come along in the path of life–it’s family that means so much in the end.  With that said, here are a few other pictures of Polly’s latest Pals.  Abraham’s dad Mohammed in the first picture, Abraham’s friend or perhaps a relative I’m not sure, and of course just of Abraham sailing his felucca.  Look at that smile….

The other interesting thing about Pollyroger’s newest sailing destination is the the temple that exists near Aswan, it is known as Philae’s Temple, where the ancient Egyptian god Horace came to life.  Horace is depicted as a hawk in Egyptian writing or heiroglyphics, as it is better known.  What is truly amazing though is this temple to Horace was halfway submerged under the Nile River.  When the High Dam was being built the modern Egyptian engineers, were able to move it to higher ground, stone by stone perfectly.  The temple was constructed originally, so that on the day of Horace’s birth the sun would enter the temple and hit directly on the altar at sunrise–today it still does just one day later!  I may not have recited this 100% acurately, but our guide extordinare, Mayer can comment and let me know what I got wrong… =)  Thanks for EVERYTHING, Mayer!

Polly Turns Two in Tennessee and the Thames!

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Well howdy there Pals!  Polly’s been having quite an adventure when she went stateside for a spell and if you’ve been keeping track she turned TWO!!  Her birthday was April 1st and did she ever get to celebrate…  Where to begin?

I guess the best place is her first night out on the town in the great town of Nashville, TN where she learned what “honky tonking” is all about….

"We'll Go Honky Tonking..."

"We'll Go Honky Tonking..."

She was totally amazed by the great music she heard strolling through downtown Nashville.  A few of her friends came along to join her, Anjeanette, Kevin, Ruthie, Karen, and John.  She first wandered into Brazilian Billy’s Bar and couldn’t believe her ears as she heard a Brazilian belt out some serious country and western music.  But the night was young and on down the road everyone went.  It was hard to decide where to go into next until she heard the thumping on a stand up bass she’d never heard the likes of before and wouldn’t you know it they had just cut a cd with a cover that stole Polly’s heart!! =)

Well if that night out on the town wasn’t enough, Polly got to do what she loves the most for her birthday–SAILING!!  Her new friend, Ruthie managed to set up a sail on Percy Priest Lake, talk about some Polly Pride!!  The skipper of the vessel was Casey, a true gentleman and a great captain as well.  He flew Polly proudly from his rigging and was she one happy gal.  It had been some time since Polly had flown and sailed all in the same day–talk about a great birthday week.

But wait–the birthday celebrations continued this time on the other side of the Atlantic with her Aunt Britta in London town.  Polly is seen here posing with Millenium Bridge in the background on the River Thames–talk about a TERRIFIC TWO celebration….

Stay tuned, this gal likes to travel for sure…  There have been rumors of her showing up in the Carribean, possibly in Spain, even back in Florida.  She’s one busy gal and she sure has some wonderful pals out there taking her to great adventures and best of all having FUN!!

Paraty Pirate Polly

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

Polly has been having quite the adventure in Brazil.  She has found waters and vessels, islands and waterfalls to play in, not wanting to leave this country for many reasons but knows that there are even more wonderful adventures ahead.  She has been enchanted, with this country on many levels, that she was uncertain about.  It just goes to show that you never know what lies ahead on the road of adventure and possiblities…

Here she is posing with a pirate pal she found in the town of Paraty, Brazil.  It is a little colonial town on the water’s edge with gorgeous islands scattered around it’s bay that you can go to by the vessel of your choice.  Of course her first choice was via sailboat and she was not disappointed.Paraty Pirate Polly

Her next outing was to explore the mountain streams that feed into the bay of Paraty with gorgeous waterfalls that once were along the “Gold Trail” to Minas Gerais.  The town of Paraty was such an important port of exporting the gold that many forts were built to protect her from these said pirate-types.  The canons still line the little harbor in this town.  But the boom time was short for Paraty with the construction of a road directly to the mines and her port lost it’s importance…

But the Portuguese people who settled this area remained and with them their wonderful heritage, their lust for life, and their love of the sea  among many more things to give this beautiful little town a special place in Brazil’s history.

So today is Polly’s last day in Paraty.  She’s explored the islands on a schooner, a sailboat and finally she must say her farewells.  She knows there is still so much more to discover here but onward she shall go.  What lies ahead on the path?  Let’s see where the road she takes will lead her next…

Polly Sails on into 2010!

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010
Polly is definitely beginning to make her way around the planet!  Polly is now proudly flying on the vessel that traverses the Andean lakes each day from Chile to Argentina (weather permitting).   She was introduced to the captain of the vessel, Captain Salim and crew.  They were pleased to know she sails in the Argentine Lake District as well on Lago Argentino next to the Perito Moreno Glacier.  The captain assured us Pollyroger will be proudly sailing on Lagos Todos Los Santos in Chile as well!

She was recently asked what her goal was regarding her planetary pursuits and it gave her some pause…  After some reflecting on the question and it’s ultimate meaning to her and her pursuit of friends, FUN, and time spent on the water.   She decided sailing on vessels that encompass the seven seas (or lakes as in this post) would be a good one, but also the traveler in her knows it would take time to see all the amazing beauty in the world in that manner.   So again, it’s the pals she makes along the way who will carry her forward to her planetary destinations.

So in honor of those wonderful people she met last year here is her first  feature presentation.

Polly Meets the Chilean Navy…. =)

Monday, January 4th, 2010

You have got to love these Chilean folks for their easy going nature.  Polly was touring around the city of Valparaiso at the Plaza Sotomayor where the Chilean Armada and their Commander-in-Chief is posted.  The building is very impressive to say the least.

Valparaiso has a significant maritime history as a port city prior to the Panama Canal being completed, but now it still is a major shipping destination for a huge amount of products from points as far south as Buenos Aires, Uruguay and more.

Polly not being the shy-type went up and introduced herself to the guards on watch and asked if they would mind taking a picture with her–here is the shot.  Happy New Year Pals!! =)
